Wind power generation systems and photovoltaic power generation systems require a dedicated controller designed for each one. Regenerative breaking systems are also designed for each DC motor. When you develop such a new controller or regenerative breaking unit, you have to change the design for each of them. Therefore we developed a universal electric power collecting unit for small wind power generation systems, photovoltaic power systems, and regenerative breaking systems with general small DC motors that utilize brushes.

We ran the unit and verified the availability for wind power generation, photovoltaic power generation, and regenerative breaking. As a result, we found that the unit has the following features.

  1. The unit is available for wind power generation, photovoltaic power generation, and regenerative breaking only by changing the switch status.
  2. The unit can charge batteries even though voltage from the generator or motor is lower than the nominal voltage of the batteries.
  3. The unit can do breaking even though its regenerative power is lower than the chargeable power of the system.
