Kenichi SHIMIZU, Satoshi ABE

It was proposed that by immersing polycarbonate(PC) under the stress in the crazing agent of benzyl alcohol(BA)/ethylene glycol(EG), the degree of growth of the craze in PC under the stress in the air could be estimated quickly. This estimation was based on the following experimental results: the PC was not swollen and not soluble in a range of less than 80vol% concentrations of BA. The crazing features in PC in the crazing agent apparently looked like in air. The length of craze linearly increased in the logarithm of time both in the crazing agent and in the air. The formation and growth of crazing was more rapid in the crazing agent than in the air. The length of craze in the PC immersed in the crazing agent during the 10 minute period was linearly dependent on concentrations of BA in the crazing agent.
